HOW TO GET TO SARDINIA

BY PLANE
The best way to get to Sardinia is by plane either by scheduled flights, by direct charter or with the low cost airlines EasyJet to Cagliari or Ryanair to Alghero. Most scheduled flights are routed via Italian mainland airports (usually Rome) and are normally more expensive than any other flight. Direct charter flights are available all year round.
EasyJet (from Luton Airport to Cagliari) and Ryanair (from Stansted Airport to Alghero) offer by far the cheapest way to get to Sardinia. Both companies fly to Sardinia all year round. British Airways and Excel also fly to Sardinia from May to October at very reasonable prices.
A further option that might be worth considering is flying to another European or Italian destination, and then to take a connecting flight to one of Sardinia’s airports. Alternatively you can complete the journey by boat (see below for more information).
There are daily flights to Sardinia from Rome, Milan, Genoa, Bologna, Venice, Turin, Naples, Catania, Palermo, Pisa.
The total flying time by direct flight takes around 2 and half hours from London. However the total travelling time will be much more difficult to estimate if your flight is routed via an Italian mainland airport as the waiting time for a connecting internal flight can vary greatly from airport to airport.
Sardinia has three major airports: Cagliari-Elmas (in the south), Alghero-Fertilia (in the north-west) and Olbia- Costa Smeralda (north-east). One can also fly to Arbatax airport (east) from Italy mainland.
Here is a list of some of the airlines that fly to Sardinia. This section will be updated regularly.

A car is always recommended, and even more so if you are planning to travel around.
It is also a good idea to book travel tickets, accommodation and car in advance if travelling in July/August.
